KosmodeHealth is a deep-tech start-up that is a spin-off of the NUS Food Science & Technology department. In a nutshell, the company is in the business of valorisation & value extraction. KosmodeHealth extracts bioactives such as proteins and fibres — all the good nutritional stuff — from spent food ingredients, alternatively known as food waste streams, and formulate them into functional food.
KosmodeHealth has one mission and that is to expand access to health from nature by addressing challenges in 2 industries — the agri-food and biomedical industry.
KosmodeHealth achieves this through the use of 3 key technologies — Sustainable, Halal-Certifiable Plant Extraction Technology; Plant Protein Composite (PPCTM) Bio-Ink Formulation Technology; and Precise 3D Bio-Printing Technology.
What makes KosmodeHealth so unique is its fundamental Plant Extraction Technology. The main differentiating factor for its Plant Extraction Technology lies in the expertise, trade secret and know-how generated by Professor Huang Dejian, KosmodeHealth’s Technical Co-Founder. Whilst there are many companies able to conduct plant extraction, KosmodeHealth’s ability to optimize yield & extract purity is evident by the many out-reach from customers from as far as USA and Europe.
Over the years, KosmodeHealth has developed a wide range of low glycaemic index functional food from upcycled barley protein and fibre. However, the most notable contribution in the agri-food technology space comes in the form of W0W® Noodle. W0W® is a product that was specially developed to address the Asian diabetes epidemic, the nutritional needs of the ageing population, and the need for responsible consumption and production. Produced with valorised spent barley grains, a major food waste stream in Singapore, not only does W0W® contribute to waste reduction and sustainability efforts, the product has amazing nutritional benefits as well. Most notable is its blood sugar friendly attributes — W0W® elicits zero blood sugar response when consumed. Currently, W0W® stands as the only functional food in the world that generates no blood sugar response, and is wholly produced from upcycled protein and fibre from spent food ingredients. It is a uniquely Singaporean product.
With W0W®, KosmodeHealth has validated that agri-food waste-streams can be harnessed to meet the nutritional needs of Asia’s aging and diabetes populations, solving three major issues with one simple solution. Moving forward, KosmodeHealth will be focusing on scaling the business and production in the coming years.
