Tobe Packaging Industries Pte. Ltd., founded in 1987, has emerged as one of the leading plastic packaging manufacturers in the local market. With over 30 years of experience, it is one of the longest-standing and most reputable players in the industry. Initially, Tobe Packaging specialized in producing custom-made Polypropylene (PP) and Polyethylene (PE) plastic bags. However, in the late 1990s, the company expanded its offerings to include flexible packaging solutions, providing a diverse range of packaging pouches and multi-layered film products suitable for the Food and Healthcare Industries. Accredited with ISO 9001 and FSSC 22000 certifications, Tobe Packaging upholds high standards of quality management and food safety.

In 2019, Tobe Packaging underwent a significant transformation with the acquisition by a new management team led by Ms. Lim. The new leadership brought with it a fresh vision for the company, emphasizing the importance of sustainability. Recognizing the pressing need to address plastic pollution, particularly as a supplier of plastic packaging, the team embarked on a journey towards sustainability. This commitment gave rise to the development of Ecolefin, an innovative mono-material packaging solution with a barrier coating. Tobe Packaging became the first company in Singapore to offer this sustainable alternative, aiming to replace the prevalent but non-recyclable multi-material packaging in the market.

While plastic packaging continues to play a vital role in preserving food to reduce food wastage, the recycling of most food packaging materials poses significant challenges. By introducing a more sustainable version of plastic packaging, Tobe Packaging aims to set itself apart and attract environmentally conscious businesses. The company acknowledges that sustainability is a shared responsibility, and by taking a leadership role in providing sustainable solutions, it hopes to inspire positive change in the industry.

Even though it consists of a single material, Ecolefin retains the integrity of multi-material packaging while offering superior barrier properties compared to existing packaging solutions. This improved barrier capability enhances the shelf-life of the packaged products. Additionally, studies have shown that low-density polyethylene (LDPE) film requires less energy needed compared to Nylon film, thereby reducing its carbon footprint. Furthermore, the packaging has undergone certification by the Institute of Cylcos, affirming its 97% recyclability according to the EN13430 standard.
Despite the challenges encountered along the sustainability journey, Tobe Packaging is immensely grateful for the recognition it has received. The company has been featured in prominent publications such as The Straits Times x Enterprise Singapore and the July edition of Food & Beverage Asia, cementing its reputation as a trailblazer in sustainable packaging solutions. Additionally, Tobe Packaging emerged as a winner in the 2022 Sustainability Open Innovation Challenge (SOIC) organized by Enterprise Singapore, which selected the top 13 shortlisted startups. This distinction has provided Tobe Packaging with an invaluable platform to showcase its sustainable innovation and contribute to the broader discourse on sustainability in the industry.
