WERKZ Engineering Private Limited was established in 2015 as an integrated engineering company that provides technical and manpower solutions. The company’s key clients come from the facilities and property management sector.
Mr. Tay acquired the business in December 2019. Inspired by Jack Ma’s famous advice that “when you’re 40 to 50 years old… you should do things you are good at…”, Tay decided to forge ahead with this new opportunity. Shortly after taking over the company, the world was hit by the Covid-19 pandemic. Thoughts of winding the business down crossed his mind, but Tay felt the impetus to finish what he had started. He wrote to various government agencies for assistance and a breakthrough came in due time and business resumed. “Through God’s grace, the company grew exponentially,” Tay was quick to credit his faith for his success.
Since 2020, Werkz has strategically re-positioned as not just a building contractor, but an integrated M&E expert. It also deployed its skilled workers to clients in the property management sector, managing residential, industrial, and commercial establishments. The in-house team of skilled workers provides maintenance services to chiller systems, and generator sets and carries out building works in the electrical and plumbing field.
Werkz constantly innovates in the way it operates. One of the key challenges is communication as many of the issues revolve around technicians, most of them are foreigners from India. To manage this, Werkz has created an operation room like how the police operate. Issues and complaints are collated in a database which is shared with clients. The eventual goal of this is to track the volume of work done and to study the feasibility of going into “outcome-based” which aligns not only with the industry but also the national and global approach.
The company’s Mission statement to “Provide Solutions at Every level through continuous innovations, considering the obstacles our stakeholders face” drives the leaders to push harder constantly with that business mindset cascading to the rest of the team.
Currently, Werkz Engineering has diversified to other businesses with a long-term goal to form a larger Group of Companies. Tay admits that this would not be an overnight endeavour, but he is confident in both his leadership and in the talents that have come aboard to share in his dreams. For Werkz Engineering, their vision “To be Different, To Stand Out, To be the Best” is the DNA that is ingrained in all who join the Werkz family - and this may well be the one thing needed to realize his biggest dreams.
