Steel Plus Trading (SPT) was started in 2016 with just three members. Its first representative office was established in Vietnam (Hanoi) in 2017. In 2023, the company set up a representative office in Malaysia and in Thailand in 2024. Today SPT has grown to a staff strength of 19 across Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand. SPT wants to increase its presence in South-East Asia, penetrating the domestic markets. Using its international market knowledge and information, SPT aims to source suitable business opportunities within the domestic market of each country, focusing on import and export business. With increasing investments from China into South-East Asia, in particular processing and manufacturing plants, SPT wants to strengthen its position in the key South-East Asia markets.

What sets SPT apart from other trading companies is its growing local presence in the Southeast Asia markets, getting first-hand knowledge from end users and suppliers, being decisive in trading deals, understanding the market well, and adapting to the changes in the market trend.

SPT does not rely on specific raw materials but diversify its sales to other raw materials from ferrous scrap to non-ferrous scrap to paper, to raw materials. SPT mostly hire fresh graduates from universities and encourages the team to give fresh and creative ideas to improve the business, sales the documentation handling. The company organises language and management courses for them and improve themselves.

In the area of sustainability and corporate social responsibility, SPT has developed and maintained partnerships with key suppliers by having their exclusive sales channel in the export market. SPT has established local companies in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Australia to manage local currency sales for export business. The company has also accomplished local sales within the B2B sector in the South-East Asia market.

SPT is known in the international community, being invited to speak at established conferences and attending various conferences related to scrap. It has established a strategic partner yard and key partner with JV companies to invest and grow the business. SPT is partnering freight forwarding companies to explore possibilities of JV creating a win-win solution where the company can get the best freight and giving them a bigger volume to handle.

SPT wants to make a difference in the recycling market, by improving knowledge on scrap materials, including what items can be recycled, what can be substituted for scrap materials.
