Mae, who holds a BBA (Marketing) Degree from Central Pacific University, began her career with various Logistics & Freight companies, where she managed the sales and marketing aspects of the business. Building on her experiences and armed with just a simple idea and a purpose, she grew her business from a single location to multiple facilities and has the global presence it has today.
“We never imagined we would end up here today,” reveals Mae. The path of entrepreneurship isn’t easy, especially for a woman in a male-dominated business. “Our breakthrough moment occurred when we realised that we had to embrace failures and learn from mistakes. We learned how to listen more carefully and how to be more flexible. We learned how to set up, move to act, work on our leadership experiences with others and build resilience while navigating uncertainties. This really helped us to find and build our inner strength along the way,” says Mae.
Mae is also proud and passionate about empowering women in the workforce. In this male-dominated industry, 90% of InterGateway’s employees are females, leading the way for women’s entrepreneurship. Mae has also taken numerous steps to support the women in her company and spearheaded Women @ Intergateway, an entrepreneur mentorship programme designed for employees. “With this programme, we hope to give our female employees more opportunities to upskill, contribute to the business, and drive more inclusivity and diversity in the workplace. We hope to set an example and lead the way for more women to take on entrepreneurial roles.”
