Gary Chong Studios (GCS) is a cinematic video production house that specializes in new media motion picture productions. Founded in 2011 by filmmaker Gary Chong, it strives to create “out of the box” content to fulfil all clientele’s needs. GCS’s body of work is diverse and range from campaign brand webisodes to cinematic music videos. The clients come from diverse backgrounds and GCS is proud to say that many of the leading market players in various industries across Malaysia are within its belt of clients.
Over the years, GCS has acquired 18 Film and Video Awards and Nominations and helped more than 173 clients in their production and filmmaking projects and developed more than 852 videos in the past 13 years comprising of various industries. Rather than just being the video guys, GCS takes an academic consultancy approach where it uses academic methodology research to understand the “box” of clients’ industry and then proceed to advise/educate them on how to create a video which will maximize impact and the delivery of their message which they intend for at that time.
It is an honour to receive this award, and this goes to prove how with frameworks, strategies plus hard work, success is definitely achievable. Trends come and go, but with a constant push towards analysing the “box” as to how media content rotates and its impact point of audiences from all backgrounds, GCS uses 3 things to its advantage in terms of innovation/experimentation — technology, fresh ideas and a dynamic team. The team adopts a hardware/software/technique perspective to not just elevate the quality of video production output but give greater value to the client in terms of what is considered state of the art in the market. By combining what has worked within the industry and across industries, the team is able to tailor make videos which are “fresh” and at the same time, proven in its effectiveness and worth of salt. A dynamic team made up of various backgrounds and experiences provides a diverse viewpoint of perspectives and opinions so that the team is not stuck in a single mould of “this is the only way we do things”.
In an ESG centric world, green practices are definitely on the cards and GCS aims to utilize this from the grassroots level to the very top of the organization.
